For most people, a pawpaw tree is simply just a great source of nutrients. But for Mr. Brown, a loving husband and father of two from Chitukula Village (Traditional Authority Kabudula, Lilongwe District), it was the key to unlocking a lifelong dream of owning livestock.

His journey began in 2022 when SAFI distributed pawpaw seedlings in his community. Mr. Brown received and planted 20 seedlings, 15 of which survived and thrived. Today, those 15 trees yield an incredible harvest of roughly 500 pawpaws every year across two fruiting seasons.

This year, selling his pawpaws at K750 each, Mr. Brown brought in a wholesome total of K375,000. He immediately reinvested his earnings into his household’s future by purchasing three pigs, officially establishing his livestock farming venture. For Mr. Brown, these trees were more than just agriculture, they were an opportunity to shift his mindset and build sustainable wealth. Seeing farmers like Mr. Brown break boundaries and achieve their goals makes us incredibly proud at SAFI.
