During our recent graduation ceremony, we had the distinct honor of presenting each of our graduating students with five chickens. This meaningful gesture was made possible through the generosity and vision of Parker Horn, a former BYU intern who first joined us in Malawi in 2025. Demonstrating deep commitment to the mission of SAFI, Parker spearheaded a fundraising effort specifically aimed at providing our graduates with an immediate livestock starter pack. This initiative empowers families to enhance their household nutrition while building a foundation for greater financial stability. As our graduates set off for home, they did so with renewed hope, sustainable resources, and heartfelt gratitude for Parker’s unwavering support.
Beyond the immediate boost to household nutrition and income, this gesture serves as a sustainable stepping stone toward long-term self-reliance for our graduates. By raising and expanding their small livestock herds, these families will create ongoing economic opportunities and pass on valuable agricultural skills within their communities.
