The Campus Project
The Campus Project is the heart of our educational mission and has been the cornerstone of our work since the very birth of SAFI. For years, we have opened our doors to families across Malawi, inviting them into an immersive environment where modern agricultural science meets traditional wisdom.
Unlike traditional classrooms, our campus is a living laboratory. We believe that true mastery comes through action, which is why our curriculum is centered on practical, hands-on learning.
We do not just teach theory, we provide the tools for success. While on campus, each participating farmer is assigned their own piece of land. This dedicated space serves as a training ground where they can immediately apply the lessons they learn in the classroom. Under the guidance of our expert instructors, families take full ownership of their plots, gaining the confidence and skills needed to manage a successful farm before they even return to their home villages.
Our “Advanced Forms of Farming” courses are designed to turn families into well-rounded agricultural entrepreneurs. The training includes:
- Crop & Soil Mastery: Intensive practicals in Maize production and Legume production, focusing on high-yield, sustainable techniques.
- Animal Husbandry: Learning the care, breeding, and management of livestock to diversify family income and nutrition.
- Irrigation & Water Management: Modern techniques to ensure crops thrive even during the dry season.
- Backyard Gardening: Maximizing small spaces around the home to ensure a constant, year-round supply of fresh vegetables.
- Gender and Business: Critical training in financial literacy and gender equality, ensuring that both husbands and wives work as equal partners in their family business.
This project is as old as SAFI itself. Since our founding, the Campus Project has served as the launchpad for thousands of families to move from subsistence living to self-reliance. By providing the land, the seeds, and the knowledge, we are ensuring that when a family leaves our campus, they are not just taking home a certificate they are taking home a blueprint for a better life. Until today, SAFI has trained over 500 households from a number of districts across the county.
