Governance
SAFI is registered as a non-profit making organization (company limited by guarantee). Policy and governance matters are overseen by an independent Board of Directors. Currently, the following eminent persons are serving as Directors.
Prof. Napoleon Dzombe
Board Chair
Entrepreneur and Philanthropist. Founded SAFI in 2002. He is Executive Chairman of Mtalimanja Holdings Ltd. He was conferred honorary professorship by University of Hebron in 2022 because of his numerous exploits in the business world.
Prof. George Kanyama Phiri
Board Chair
Former Vice Chancellor of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), formerly Bunda College. He has been conducting research on agro ecological and agricultural issues for smallholder farmers in Malawi for over three decades. Prof Kanyama-Phiri has played an instrumental role nationally in shaping agricultural education at the post-secondary level.
Mr. Gabriel Mthunzi
Director
Finance Specialist and Businessperson. Worked as Finance Manager for Press Agriculture for a long time. After retirement, he manages his commercial farming operations.
Dr. Charles Masangano
Director
Retired at the rank of Senior Lecturer in Agriculture Extension and Rural Development from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), formerly Bunda College. Dr Masangano has played a pivotal role in the design and development of decentralized agricultural extension services in Malawi.
Dr. Judith Kamoto
Director
Senior Lecturer in Social Forestry Policy and Governance. She currently serves as Campus Director at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Bunda Campus.
